Methodology Literature search The bulk of information contained in this survey reports the results of a substantial review of published research on course evaluations and the evaluation of teaching. [...] The organization of this review is the result of an iterative process that reflected the development of our understanding of the material. [...] One challenge to the generalizability of research findings is the diversity of course evaluation instruments, policies and processes, as well as the diversity of institutional and instructional contexts. S. common means of evaluating teaching typically include course evaluations, letters from students and colleagues, in-class/peer evaluations, the receipt of teaching awards, course materials and texts and evidence of innovative strategies and practices.
