A systematic review on the effectiveness of training & education for the protection of workers published jointly by the Institute for Work & Health and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health [IWH, 2007] has summarized education and training initiatives in OHS and below is a brief synopsis of some of their recommendations: Research on the effectiveness of OHS training is needed to: 1 [...] Working under the direction and guidance of the Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP) Advisor assigned to the unit, these coaches worked along side their colleagues in a supernumerary position on a rotational basis to provide encouragement, problem solving and guidance on the maximizing of the use of ceiling lifts in their areas. [...] The specific study objectives are: 1. To examine staff perceptions on ceiling lift use and the coaching program’s effectiveness 2. To evaluate the program with respect to its impact on injury rate and claim costs Research Design and Method (Objective 1) A questionnaire was designed to provide evidence on the effectiveness of peer coaching program from the healthcare workers’ perspective in facilit [...] The form is then forwarded to the occupational health & safety department of the health region where designated staff verify the incident details and follow up with completion of the document. [...] To evaluate the incidence and severity of MSI in relation to the coaching program, the data were analyzed with a pre/post study design (to compare facilities before and after the implementation of the coaching program) and a concurrent control study design (to compare facilities with the coaching program to similar facilities without).
