BCIRPU’s vision is “to be a leader in the production and transfer of injury prevention knowledge and the integration of evidence- based injury prevention practices into the daily lives of those at risk, those who care for them, and those with a mandate for public health and safety in British Columbia”. [...] The opinions expressed in this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Public Health Agency of Canada. [...] The study was approved by the Research Ethic Board of the University of British Columbia and Children’s and Women’s Health Centre (Certificate #CW12-0189/H12-01736), Vancouver, and the Research Ethics Board of the Public Health Agency of Canada, Ottawa (Certificate #REB 2011-0049). [...] The expected result was an understanding of the after-school outdoor play spaces available to children in these selected communities, as well an understanding of the play spaces relationships to safety and injury, if any, as described by the children themselves. [...] Step 4: The images and narratives were mapped in order to describe the spatial distribution of play spaces within the neighbourhood, and to describe any relationship within this distribution to safety and injury concerns, as reported by the children.
