It was concluded that the findings were consistent with the phonological core deficit model (Brunswick, McCrory, Price, Frith, & Frith, 1999) Thompkins and Binder (2003) attempted to address the question of the degree of similarity between adults and children who are in the process of reading acquisition. [...] The primary differences between the two programs were the size of the sub syllabic unit that was emphasized and the use of metacognitive strategies. [...] The program was considered a balanced approach to reading instruction and consisted of 30-minute sessions for 4 days each week, which resulted in a total of 32 hours of instruction through the course of the Classroom-based versus computer-based literacy instruction 17 study. [...] In all, the authors supported the use of CAI in the classroom as a means of enhancing the reading skills of those with low levels of literacy. [...] A multiple choice format is used in each of the test content areas with the exception of 1) a Writing Test that is part of the Language Arts/Writing test which requires the candidate to write an expository essay and 2) 20% of the problems on the Mathematics Test where candidates are required to generate a numerical answer to questions.
